Crossword
This option allows you to search for words with missing letters, for instance, if you have the letters “a le”, with unknown letters between “a” and “l” then you can substitue the missing letters with a “space” which places a “?” in the word so you can identify the missing letters. You can then press the Search button which will return, after a second or so, a list of words “abele”, “acale”, “addle” etc.
Anagram
This option allows you to un-jumble words to find the hidden word or words. If you type “alppe” and press the Search button, or the Search key on the keyboard if you’re running a modern version of Android, then the list of words returned will be “appel”, “apple” and “pepla”. These are all valid “real” words of the anagram “alppe”. If you are unsure of a word e.g. “pepla” select it in the list and the browser will return definitions of the word, “pepla” is a genre of Italian sword and sandal movies.
Word List
This option returns all the words that can be made from a jumble of letters. If you type “alppe” and press Search you will get a list of all the words that can be made from those letters e.g. “ale”, “alp”, “appel”, “peal” etc. In this word list you can filter the words in size, 2 letter words, 4 letter words and so on, the largest word in the dictionary is over 25 characters.
Scrabble
This option will attempt to find the best scoring word from your tiles and any tiles on the board. If you have blank tiles then these are entered by pressing the “space” bar and they will be identified by a “?” per blank tile in the “Your Tile” section. If you have tiles on the board you can enter them as “??P??” in the “Board Tiles” section pressing “space” will insert the “?” for you. If you don’t enter any “Board Tiles” it will find all the words that can be made from the letters in “Your Tiles”. If you enter only letters in the “Board Tiles” it will search for words that contain those letters adjacent to each other i.e. if you have “AP” in the “Board Tiles” and “LPE” in the “Your Tiles” then it will find all the words like “APPLE” and “LAPP” but not “PEPLA” since the letters “AP” are not adjacent to each other in the word “PEPLA”. You can, of course, just enter 1 letter in the “Board Tiles” if you so wish. Note, this option only works with the “English” dictionary, even if you are using another language for the other word searches this will always use the”English” dictionary.
Premier Scoring, this scores the scrabble letters using “D” for double letter, “T” for triple letter, “Z” for double word and “X” for triple word scores i.e. if the first letter scores a double letter then put “D” in the first character and so on for the other scoring possabilities..
Code Words
This option allows you to solve a common puzzle called Code Words. This puzzle is where each letter is given a number and you fill in all the letters on the puzzle with the matching number. Once you have matched a letter to a number it is a “known” letter. To solve this type of puzzle using Word Puzzle Solver you enter the word you are searching for in the text box using the “space” for unknown letters. You then populate the known letters from the puzzle in the “Known letters” text box and press Search, this will then find all the words in the dictionary that match the searched for word but NOT including the known letters.
Boggle
This allows you to solve Boggle puzzles, enter letters in the 4×4 grid and a soultion will appearing listing all the words that can be made from the letters. Sometimes the solution may take a few seconds especially on older android devices.
Word Ladder
Word Ladder is the game where you have to move from one word to another only changing one letter at a time.
Extras
This option allows you to search for words that start with, ends with or contains the search text. If you select “Contains” then you will NOT get the words that start with and ends with the search string. You are able to filter on word size once the results are returned.
Settings
Default Start Screen
This allows you to start on the most useful Word Puzzle Solver screen for you.
Font Size
This is changed through the settings menu option, you can change the word list size to be small, medium or large.
Language
You are able to use a number of languages with this app, this is done from the menu option, the languages are French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Portugese, Dutch and English, English is the default.
Word List
This option allows you to select the type of English dictionary you want to use for your word searches, the options are Crossword, which is a dictionary of over 350,000 words, SOWPODS which is a combination of OSPD (Official Scrabble Players’ Dictionary) and OSW (Official Scrabble Words), and TWL06 which is the Tournament Word List.
All word ladder solutions
If enabled this will display all the word ladders that were found whilst solving the word ladder not just the optimal one.
